Before It’s Too Late

After reading the devotional by George Morrison below, I was blessed with this poem.

Before It's Too Late

As each day passes quickly

and my journeys end is drawing near,

I will always reach out with God’s love

to those who will take the time to hear.

Jesus message never changes,

ever since God said, “Let there be light!”

What He told His disciples is for us too,

when He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!”

This worlds time is always against us,

it quickly comes and passes on by.

Sometimes it happens so quickly,

we don’t stop to think or question why?

Well, praise God for His Word He left us

and the Holy Spirit to explain what it’s all about.

Please take some time to understand, my friends,

before it’s too late, for your time will surly run out!

The Way, the Truth, the Life

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life--Joh 14:6

No one was more ready than Jesus to detect the anxieties of those He loved. We picture Him, as He taught the twelve, watching intently the expression on their faces to learn how far His words were understood. Jesus had noted, then, tokens of heart distress (John  14:1). The disciples felt His departure like a torture. And it was then that He consoled them with such simple and glorious speech that all Christendom is the debtor to their agony. They thought that His death was an unforeseen calamity. Christ taught them it was the path of His own planning. They thought that heaven was very far away. Christ taught them it was but another room in the great home of whose many mansions this beautiful world was one. He was not stepping out into the dark. He was passing from one room to another in the house. But the mightiest encouragement of all came when He told them, "I go to prepare a place for you." This, then, was the purpose of His going, that love might have all things ready when they arrived. So Jesus says, "I go to prepare a place for you. I go to have all things ready for your coming." And though there are depths in these words we cannot fathom and mysteries we cannot understand, they mean at least that love is getting ready to give the children a real welcome home.

Jesus is the Way

Then Jesus utters the Via Veritas Vita (the Way, the Truth, the Life): and first of all He says, "I am the way." It was the very word that the disciples wanted, for they all felt like wanderers that night. There was a helplessness in the disciples when Jesus announced that He was soon to leave them. So far, they had all walked with Jesus. Now, at the cross, that pathway seemed to cease. We can hardly grasp the depth of comfort in it when they heard that Christ was to be the Way forevermore. It was in Him they (and us) were to fight and conquer. It was in Him they (and us) were to live and die. It was in Him they (and us) were to reach the glory and stand in the presence of the Father at the end. They felt (as we should also) there was a new and living way. So Jesus, our Redeemer, is still the Way. A thousand things have gone, but that remains. It is through His death, and His rising from the dead, and through our daily fellowship with Him that we walk heavenward and reach home at last.

Jesus is the Truth

Then Jesus says, "I am the truth." He does not say, observe, I speak the truth. There was a deeper meaning in His mind than that. I hope that every child will speak the truth; yet every child, as his experience grows, will discover with shame how untrue he is at heart. Christ is the sum and center of all truth. Where Christ is not, there is a false note always. And one of the great joys of knowing Jesus is the sweet assurance that truth is ours at last. That truth sheds light upon a thousand facts. Things that were quite inexplicable once--sorrows and joys and hopes and fears and haunting--become intelligible through this great discovery.

Jesus is the Life

There is no book in any literature so filled with the message of life as the New Testament. If there is one word that sums up the Gospel, it is life. And here we are taught that that life is in Jesus Christ. He is the source of it. It is treasured in Him. And there is no way to gain it and to keep it but by trusting and by loving Him.

      I cannot solve mysterious things,

          That fill the schoolmen's thoughts with strife;

But oh! what peace this knowledge brings--

          Thou art the Life!

      Hid in thy everlasting deeps,

The silent God His secret keeps.

The Way, the Truth, the Life, Thou art!

          This, this I know; to this I cleave;

The sweet, new language of my heart--

          "Lord, I believe."

      I have no doubt to bring to Thee;

My doubt has fled, my faith is free!

George H. Morrison

Yes, my friends, my faith is also free!

Sacrifice

My heart saddens when I think of all the hero's that sacrificed everything for "each other" and also the country they love, to see what it is becoming today. Doom can be stated using 2 words, "Godless and heartless".

Here is what Robert Simanek, a veteran, once wrote:

"this is the finest country in the world. That maybe you should all try to get away from it sometime in your life to know how good it is to be a citizen of the United States. But I also told them that no matter how much we love our country, we fought for each other. We never thought about it as self-sacrifice as much as the necessity to do your job so that the group could succeed. Any sacrifices we really made were for each other.”

This is a true story. This teacher was awarded Teacher of the Year for the state of Arkansas in 2006.

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

'Ms. Cothren, where are our desks?'

She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the

right to sit at a desk.'

They thought, 'Well, maybe it's our grades.'

'No,' she said.

'Maybe it's our behavior.'

She told them, 'No, it's not even your behavior.'

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third

period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in

Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, 'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom.

Now I am going to tell you.'

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.

Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that

classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These

heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up

to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good

students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.

I pray that today we can "all" stop and turn back to once again being, "One Nation under God”.

Interesting.  I just read this story about love and it brought to mind one of the early poems I was blessed with.  Read the story then the poem.  At the end of the poem it states; “I love You”, He said!

Now who do you think said that? Here is the story.

Two soldiers were very friendly, great friends. One evening one soldier comes back to the trench but finds that his friend has not returned. Many people have been killed on the front. He becomes afraid — is his friend killed?

He enquires, and then somebody says, ‘We are not certain that he is killed, but he was so terribly wounded that it was impossible for him to come to the trench. By now he must be dead.’

It is getting dark now and the enemy is still firing madly but the soldier wants to go and search for his friend.

The officer says, ‘No, this is foolish’, but he doesn’t listen to the officer — he goes.

It is very difficult in the dark and there are thousands of corpses all around.

He looks and looks and in the middle of the night he returns — dragging his friend’s dead body on his back. He himself is now terribly wounded, mortally wounded… he cannot survive.

The moment he reaches the trench he falls on the floor with the body of his dead friend.

The officer comes and he says, ‘I told you not to be foolish! It was not worth it. Now you know what you have done to yourself. The friend is dead and you are dying!’

The dying man opened his eyes and he said, ‘But it was worth it — because when I went there, he looked at me and he said, “Jim, I knew you would come.”‘

For love, life can be sacrificed — it is worth it.

But we have been taught just the contrary: sacrifice everything just to be alive; just to survive, sacrifice everything.

Life is beautiful only when there is love. Love is a higher value than life… a greater value than life. Life can be sacrificed to love, but love cannot be sacrificed to life.

I Love You, He Said

I love you, He said,

as the first nail went in.

I do this for you

because of your sin.

The shame that I bear

I do this for you,

He said this as

the mallet hit nail number two.

The reason I came

was so all would be free.

I love you, He said

as they hit nail three.

He hung there for hours,

then bowed His head.

“My Father, why have You forsaken me?”

“I love You”, He said!

What Was America Like?

I can envision one day my great grandkids sitting on my knee and asking, Grandpa, what was America like when you were young?  This would probably happen when they were tired of playing with all the many high tech toys that they had.  Or maybe, while their iPads  and cell phones were charging. Hmm.

Well, I would tell them that I lived in a small 2 bedroom house that my mom and dad bought for less than some computers cost.  That we had a coal furnace with one central vent in the living room to heat the whole house.  My mother would put her homemade bread on there to rise and stay warm in the winter.  You could smell it when you were outside playing.

We were outside playing a lot for there wasn’t very many “high tech toys” back then.  The first bike I had my dad built for me.  He did that when he had the time when not working 10 to 12 hour days.  A lot of time even after working long hours at work he would come home and work in the garden, providing food for his family. As a family we all sat at the kitchen table and ate together.  If we didn’t like what mom prepared, which was always good, you didn’t eat.  You always asked to be excused before leaving the table.

When the street lights came on us kids knew it was time to come home.  If it was after school you came home and did you school work before going outside.  In the evening we would be in the parlor, yep, thats what we called it.  Mom would be crocheting, Dad would be reading his paper and us kids would be laying on the rug listening to the radio!  We didn’t have a TV then.

At night you were tucked in your bed after saying your prayers.

On the weekends we would all pile into one vehicle and go for a ride.  Sometimes mom would pack sandwiches for when we would stop.

Oh yes, back then in America, our milk was delivered in bottles that we would wash when finished and the milkman would pick them up.  Plastic wasn’t used back then.  We got most of our news from the newspaper.

Yeah, that was America back then.

Back When

I wish we could go back,
when less commercials there would be.
When watching what we paid for
just a few channels on TV.

Back when we had maybe only,
twenty channels at most to view.
Back when the programs broadcast
meant something to me and you.

Back when censorship was important
and true comedy made us laugh.
Back when be believed the news,
yes, I wish I could go back.

Well, now we all be streaming,
and many are now talking to the TV.
They call the TV’s Smart
well, for sure not you or me.

See, they have now found a way,
to control what we say and do.
Hey, here is the best part,
we’re paying more me and you.

Ok, I know back when won’t happen,
for technology won’t let us be.
So the only way I am in control now
is when I click off my TV!

The Bible Tells Me So

A favorite author of mine is Neil T. Anderson.  He wrote an article that I saw on Facebook titled, “Twenty Cans of Success”.  As you read through you will see where he referenced bible verses for each “can”.

Mark 9:24

I do believe; help my unbelief

Someone has said that success comes in cans and failure in cannot’s. The "Twenty Cans of Success," taken from God's Word, will expand your knowledge of our faith-object, the Almighty God. Building your faith by internalizing these truths over the next two days will help lift you from the miry clay of the cannot’s to the reality that in Christ you can do all things.

Romans 1:17

The righteous man shall live by faith

Believing that you can succeed at Christian growth and maturity takes no more effort than believing you cannot succeed. So why not believe that you can walk in faith and in the Spirit; that you can resist the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil; and that you can grow to maturity as a Christian.

Why should I say I can’t, when the Bible says I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13)

Why should I lack, when I know that God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)

Why should I fear, when the Bible says God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)

Why should I lack faith to fulfill my calling, knowing that God has allotted to me a measure of faith (Romans 12:3)

Why should I be weak, when the Bible says that the Lord is the strength of my life and that I will display strength and take action because I know God (Psalm 27:1; Daniel 11:32)

Why should I allow satan supremacy over my life, when He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4)

Why should I accept defeat, when the Bible says that God always leads me in triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14)

Why should I lack wisdom, when Christ became wisdom to me from God and God gives wisdom to me generously when I ask Him for it (1 Corinthians 1:30; James 1:5)

Why should I be depressed, when I can recall to mind God's lovingkindness, compassion and faithfulness, and have hope (Lamentations 3:21-23)

Why should I worry and fret, when I can cast all my anxiety on Christ who cares for me (1 Peter 5:7)?

Why should I ever be in bondage, knowing that there is liberty where the Spirit of the Lord is (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Why should I feel condemned, when the Bible says I am not condemned because I am in Christ (Romans 8:1)

Why should I feel alone, when Jesus said He is with me always and He will never leave me nor forsake me (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5)

Why should I feel accursed or that I am the victim of bad luck, when the Bible says that Christ redeemed me from the curse of the law that I might receive His Spirit (Galatians 3:13, 14)

Why should I be discontented, when I, like Paul, can learn to be content in all my circumstances (Philippians 4:11)

Why should I feel worthless, when Christ became sin on my behalf that I might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Why should I have a persecution complex knowing that nobody can be against me, when God is for me (Romans 8:31)

Why should I be confused, when God is the author of peace and He gives me knowledge through his indwelling Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:33; 2:12)

Why should I feel like a failure, when I am a conqueror in all things through Christ (Romans 8:37)

Why should I let the pressures of life bother me, when I can take courage knowing that Jesus has overcome the world and its tribulations (John 16:33)?

I once heard the statement of what the BIBLE means, “Basic Information Before Leaving Earth”!  How true that is!  Read on and be blessed!

Living The Word Of God

I want to share a story and then a poem I was blessed with.  Sometimes stories can touch a persons heart and with it leave a message, just for that person.  This one was titled “Apples”!

A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago . They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night's dinner. In their rush, with tickets and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their nearly-missed boarding...

ALL BUT ONE!!! He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned.

He told his buddies to go on without him, waved good-bye, told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their home destination and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the terminal where the apples were all over the terminal floor.

He was glad he did. The 16-year-old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her; no one stopping and no one to care for her plight.

The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them back on the table and helped organize her display. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket.

When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, "Here, please take this $40 for the damage we did. Are you okay?"She nodded through her tears. He continued on with, "I hope we didn't spoil your day too badly."

As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, "Mister...." He paused and turned to look back into those blind eyes. She continued, "Are you Jesus?"

He stopped in mid-stride ... and he wondered. He gently went back and said, "No, I am nothing like Jesus - He is good, kind, caring, loving, and would never have bumped into your display in the first place.

"The girl gently nodded: "I only asked because I prayed for Jesus to help me gather the apples. He sent you to help me, so you are like Him - only He knows who will do His will. Thank you for hearing His call, Mister."

Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in his soul: "Are you Jesus?"

Do people mistake you for Jesus?

That's our destiny, is it not?  To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace.

If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting Scripture and going to church. It's actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day .

You are the apple of His eye even though you, too, have been bruised by a fall. He stopped what He was doing and picked up you and me on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit.

Now here is the poem. For me I did say yes!

The Face in the Mirror

I looked in the mirror

and what did I see,

the face of Jesus

looking back at me.

I said, “oh Lord ,

how can this be?

The things I’ve done

You can’t really want to be me!

You never sinned

or did any wrong,

how can I possibly think

being with You I belong?

Then within a moment

He spoke to my heart.

“The past is forgiven

let Me be your new start!

If you can say, yes,

and finally agree,

then the reflection in the mirror

will always be Me.”
