It was never about this life! ~ July 29th, 2021

Some of my favorite Bible verses is found in the gospel of John the 21st chapter. Jesus is talking with Simon Peter. In verses 15 thru 17 Jesus asks Simon if he loves Him. What I love doing is replacing my name where Simon's is:

John 21

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Ed Shagott, Edward, son of Steven and Ann, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Edward, son of Steven and Ann, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Ed Shagott, Edward, son of Steven and Ann, lovest thou me? Edward was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Now what I find interesting is what Jesus stated to Simon three times, the word "feed"! I know Jesus and Simon both knew the importance of food but I believe Jesus was talking about the Word of God, the Gospel message. For His lambs and His sheep. As I think back on my 24 plus years and counting the calling on my life, broken at the time, but God knew I was ready to surrender to Him and now willing to feed His broken children with His love and grace. To assure them that they are not forsaken or will He leave them.

I do have so many wonderful memories of reaching out to God's children in song, poetry and the awesome Word of God. One that truly stands out was a woman named Dorothy. I have shared this in previous postings but will always be needed to share for it is the foundation of what I feel I was called to do and will do until I am called home. It touched my heart in such a way that I was blessed with a poem and also a lyrics (the music is from There Is A River) to a song. Dorothy on this day was needing to be fed. In her heart she was hunger for the Lord.

The Poem

A Poem For Dorothy

I met a woman through God's love and Dorothy was her name. Ever since the day we met our lives were not the same. Dorothy was lost and confused, on her heart she had something to tell. With tears streaming down her face, she said, "I don't want to go to hell!" I took her hand in mine and asked if Jesus she knew? She looked me in the eyes and said, "I'm not sure if I do!" We said the sinners prayer together, then I shared with her God's love. Neither one of us will be the same, all because of the Father above. E. P. Shagott

The Song

My friends, this life goes by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday my mother was calling her three small boys in for supper. When I think back, that was over 70 plus years ago. The interesting thing is we only get one day at a time. Tomorrow is not a given day. We do not know until our eyes open if we get to add another day to this life. I pray what you now understand from the poem and the song about Dorothy is what she understood once Jesus came into her heart, "it is all about Him!". She is now with Him! See, it was never about this life! Praise His Holy Name!!!

It Was Never About This Life

It was never about this life never was, never will be. For it is not about you and is not about me.

This short life of ours has meaning very true. It is all about love His love for me and you!

For we needed time to learn He knew we just wouldn’t understand, by faith we must believe that there is a promise land.

A land called grace a land filled with love a home He created for us where Christ waits above.

A home where there is no sin no guilt, no shame. A home where we all live as one and “Love” is our last name.

So each day you are on this earth think how blessed you have been, for you have one more day to learn it’s all about Him!

That's Life! ~ July 21st, 2021

It has been awhile since I posted on my "heart" blog. With the passing of my wife and a few other challenges the days seem to pass by. What we take for granted can suddenly come to a halt. Smiles can turn to frowns, laughter to tears. Our security can change to fear. Yep, the ups and downs of life. I looked around and found a few poems about this. The first poem is titled "Life's Changes". What I find amazing is how sometimes we don't see it for we are so occupied with our own pursuits. With social media we do find it easier to keep up with family and friends but with even that we can get neglectful for our eyes are just on ourselves.

Life Changes

One day you’re happy,

then one day you’re sad.

One day you can lose

all that you have.

One day all seems so clear,

then one day you’re in a fog.

You say to yourself,

“How can all go so wrong?”

Life changes my friends,

by what sometimes we choose.

Maybe what you decide today,

could be why tomorrow you may lose.

But praise be to God

when life changes come our way,

for He never changes,

day after day after day.

I also found this one that was written over 10 years ago as the previous one.

Life’s Meaning

Life is full of twists and turns,

sometimes its walls come crashing down.

But if you grab onto Jesus my friends,

life’s meaning can truly be found.

Family, friends and life itself,

sometimes overwhelming can surely be.

But once you give your all to Him,

then the Father’s Will you will be able to see.

Each life has a purpose,

the reason that only He knows.

But it was created for Him, not us,

yes, for Him and Him alone.

See, what God created in the beginning

will be there forever without end.

He made His choice in the beginning,

now it’s up to us, my friends!

How true about "sometimes the walls come crashing down"! This last poem I believe is so fitting as I continue to grieve. I must admit reading back on some of the many poems I have been blessed for it does help soothe the hurting heart.

Time For A Tear

Time for a tear,

time for a sigh,

it always will be,

for I can’t say goodbye.

Time to think back again,

of what you tried to do.

Raising a family and giving your all,

doing the best you could, too.

Your special looks,

your guiding hands,

your giving heart,

a loving woman.

One day we will be together again,

for I believe this is true,

because I heard from your friend,

“Jeanne gave her heart to Jesus”

Hey Jeanne, “I did too”!!!!

Yes my friends, as I look back and now forward all I can say is...

God's love and grace to you all!

A calling on my life! ~ July 13th, 2021

The Master and the Servant

The Master called in His servant and said, “What will you do for me?” The servant said in reply, “Whatever You ask, whatever it can be.”

The Master smiled with His approval, and reached out His hand in love. The servant fell to his knees, and obediently looked at His Master above.

The Master said, “What I have is yours, please come share all this with Me.” The servant said, “I don’t understand, Master, please explain, what could it be?”

The Master said, “I love you, and have ever since the start!” The servant said, “I don’t have anything for You Master, all I have to give is just my heart.”

The Master smiled again, then said, “That is the greatest gift one can give. I gave Mine for you a long time ago, see, it is the only way for us truly to live!”

Tell Them For Me

He wants to bless you in a special way, so He asked me to let you know that today. He said, “Tell them I have all they need, all they have to do is trust and believe.”

He said, “Tell them not to worry and fall prey, to what they see and hear in the world these days.” Then He said, “Tell them in a way they can hear, tell them My love and grace is nothing to fear!

Tell them from My Word they must read, it is important for them to understand and take heed. Tell them through my poetry and through my songs, write it and sing it so they understand they belong.

Tell them, tell them, that they must make a choice, tell them for Me, for you are My voice. Tell them all, to not listen would be a mistake, tell them My child before it’s too late.”

E. P. Shagott 11/18/2010

We Are to be His Eyes, Ears, Hands and Feet

With my eyes I am looking for sinners, yes, people just like me. With my heart is where I keep Jesus because He first loved me.

So everyday I find one, a sinner lost and looking to be free, I tell them of my friend Jesus and what He did for me.

He took away my hurting, He filled my heart with love, He gives work for me to do for Him until that day we’re together above.

So with my ears I will listen, with my eyes I will definitely seek, with my hands I will embrace them that He brings me to, with my feet.

They being the sinners, yes, the ones just like me. All they have to do is choose, so with Him they can also be.

E. P. Shagott 8/15/09

My friends, I truly believe we "each" have a calling on our lives. The key to understanding it, is to "want" to trust and obey what He puts on your heart.. Jesus said early in His ministry to "seek ye first the Kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33). See, I also believe seeking the Kingdom was not just meant for a Sunday morning. It is a 24hour relationship. When you enter into this with God then you will begin to understand His calling on your life that He created. Mark Twain said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

God's love and grace to you all!

Oh how He loves you and me! ~ July 11th, 2021

Your Walk with God

When you understand where history is heading and how it is going to culminate, you have a completely different worldview than the average person—-you cease to see things through strictly a natural perspective (i.e., it’s never just politics, it’s never just “happenstance” events)...... Likewise when it comes to your walk with God.....It’s never just your lone efforts as a singular believer in a vast universe, where your daily acts of faith and obedience seem to go virtually unnoticed by everyone but you and God.......Far from it! Your daily acts of faith and obedience—while seemingly unnoticed by others around you—are very well known to Angels, both holy and fallen—and both sides see your daily acts of faith and obedience as a shining beacon of your allegiance to the One True Living Triune God, the creator of the heavens and the earth........And your daily ongoing allegiance pits you squarely against what is coming…….

~ Mark Mitchel

My friends, I once heard a story about a man that was looking out his window and it was pouting rain. A car went by with a loud speaker warning residents that the bank of the river was about to overflow and flood the small town. The man yelled out his window, "God will save me!". A short time later the water was almost up to the window sill. they came by in a row boat and yelled to the man, "Get in we will save you!?" The man yelled out his window, "God will save me!". The water then rose quickly and the man ran upstairs to the roof top. A helicopter came by with a rope and they yelled down to the man, "Grab on to the rope we will save you!?" Once again the man yelled, "God will save me!". Well, the story goes that the man was at the pearly gates of Heaven and was entering when he saw God. He asked God, "Why didn't You save me?" God smiled and said, "I sent a car with a loud speaker, a row boat, a helicopter! You weren't listening!!"

I do pray this day you all are listening to Him. I know I do!

God's love and grace to you all!

Broken angel! ~ July 7th, 2021

Life is truly amazing. Each new day is a blessing. We each choose what we decide to do with it. A decision given to us by our Creator called “free will”. What makes each of our actions right or wrong is what we were taught and what we believe to be true or false. I believe this all shows one way or another in the character of the person.

My wife, Jeanne, had an awesome character. She could not be swayed of her convictions. Through 56 years, 5 months, 27 days and 9 hours of marriage ties we had our good times, our bad times and yep a few ugly ones. They all fall under the title of “LIFE”. What each of us decides to do with each new day given.

The title of this blog, “Broken Angel”, and it came from just that. Part of the bad part of our life’s decisions was to separate after 33 years of marriage. That was one of those daily decisions made. Was it good, bad or ugly, well, I don’t know but it was “LIFE” and though separated we were still together, I believe in love’s commitment. Always together, just on different paths.

While cleaning out my wife’s apartment, my daughter and I found something that truly for me was an “wow” experience. My wife had “many” knickknacks and a set of 12 porcelain angels, each with a month of the year on them. I noticed one that was broken in some pieces. The wings and the head of the angel were broken off. Yes, this was the month of June angel, broken as she was, for she passed from this world on June 28th, 2021. What is interesting is anytime Jeanne had something broken she would bring it to me to fix.

“This time I couldn’t!!!”

“I'll remember You!!!”

Yes I will!!!!!

God's love and grace to you all!

To get and not to get! ~ July 3rd, 2021

📖 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:7 I want to share an inspirational post from a Facebook friend who has left this troublesome world and is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Please take a few minutes to read this very truthful post.

Everyone should have questions. Any humans, redeemed or not, who claim to have all the answers should be avoided because they suffer from advanced arrogance. As Christians, we may understand more than we ever dreamed we would, but when we stand before our God, after kneeling and confessing Him Lord, we will be hit with the overwhelming truth that we understood just enough to make us efficient servants and capable witnesses but that we never graduated kindergarten in the school of eternal knowledge.

When it comes to the unbeliever, God gives just enough evidence of His existence and of their necessary redemption. He calls His creation to the stand as witness to His existence as Creator (Romans 1:20-21). Next, He calls to the stand His born-again ones who proclaim the Gospel, the only way that created man can become recreated man fit to live in His Heaven with Him (2 Corinthians 5:17; Mark 16:15).

In our limited understanding, we may wonder why God is not more aggressive in all of this. And why doesn’t He answer more prayers dramatically as a witness to His power and care? And why doesn’t He make a personal, supernatural appearance to every human? However, while valid questions from mere humans, these inquiries are spinning wheels in deep sand. It all comes back to God-given faith (Ephesians 2:8-9): “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own Understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). That is neither a cop-out nor an validation of ignorance; it is the only remedy after the cup of our own understanding overflows with what God is doing (Isaiah 55:9). Yes, we are commanded to “get understanding” (Proverbs 4:1, 5, 7), not to “get omniscience.” ~ Chuck Bassett

As I read this post from Mr. Bassett a few things jumped out at me;

"suffer from advanced arrogance",

"understood just enough to make us efficient servants",

"never graduated kindergarten in the school of eternal knowledge".

For sure at times I feel and understand "never graduating kindergarten" for I mostly feel humbly lost without His guidance. But I smile when I read "It all comes back to God-given faith (Ephesians 2:8-9): “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own Understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight”.

I Really Need You Now, Lord

I really need You now, Lord, yes, please, more and more. I need to feel Your presence, now more than ever before.

My heart is becoming empty, that once was oh so full. I really need You now Lord, please touch me if You will.

My heart cries out for peace, Lord, the peace that only You can give. I need to rest in You Lord, it’s the only way I can live.

Thank You, my loving Savior, for always hearing my earthly cries. I really need You now, Lord, for without You, how will I ever get by?

E. P. Shagott 10/8/2010

I Can’t Do It Alone

I can’t do it alone, I said, was my cry to Heaven above. The presence of God touched my heart, giving me strength through His love.

He said, “The fear that you are feeling, is from your worldly eyes. Keep them focused on Me, My child, and My Kingdom will be your prize.

Fill your mind with my Word, then process it into your heart. This will always remind you, we will never be far apart.

Seek out other Christians, And to My Son Jesus stay so true. You don’t have to do it alone, We are all here with you.”

E. P. Shagott 10/4/2010
