Mergatroyd ??? ~ November 30th, 2021

Do you remember that word? Awhile back as I was doing my morning look on Facebook I saw this posting that for sure brought back memories to me for I am a wee bit older than the 75 year (not so) old lady. With the posting was this picture that I believe is a keepsake.

What I thought would be good is to "bold" the various words that many from this present generation might not of heard, unless spoken by their grandparents!

Heavens to Mergatroyd!

The other day a not so elderly (I say 75) lady said something to her son about driving a Jalopy; and he looked at her quizzically and said, "What the heck is a Jalopy?" He had never heard of the word jalopy! She knew she was old ...But not that old.

Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory when you read this and chuckle.

About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions that have become obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology.

These phrases included: Don't touch that dial; Carbon copy; You sound like a broken record; and Hung out to dry.

Back in the olden days we had a lot of moxie . We'd put on our best bib and tucker, to straighten up and fly right.

Heavens to Betsy!

Gee whillikers!

Jumping Jehoshaphat!

Holy Moley!

We were in like Flynn and living the life of Riley; and even a regular guy couldn't accuse us of being a knucklehead, a nincompoop or a pill. Not for all the tea in China!

Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when's the last time anything was swell? Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and pedal pushers.

Oh, my aching back! Kilroy was here, but he isn't anymore.

We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can say, "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!" Or, "This is a fine kettle of fish!" We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent, as oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.

Poof, go the words of our youth, the words we've left behind. We blink, and they're gone. Where have all those great phrases gone?

Long gone: Pshaw, The milkman did it. Hey! It's your nickel. Don't forget to pull the chain. Knee high to a grasshopper.

Well, Fiddlesticks! Going like sixty. I'll see you in the funny papers. Don't take any wooden nickels. Wake up and smell the roses.

It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than Carter has liver pills.

This can be disturbing stuff! (Carter's Little Liver Pills are gone too!)

Leaves us to wonder where Superman will find a phone booth.

See ya later, alligator! Okidoki .

You'll notice they left out "Monkey Business"!!!

Well, times have changed for sure. This is a song I would share in the god's Love program "Forever Young". Back when

Mergatroyd was popular all we could do was "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter"!

Well, for sure if any of the "old timers" were around today I think they would all agree, "It's Your World Now!"

God's love and grace to you all!

Thanksgiving Day, 2021 ~ November 24th, 2021

As my eyes open on this my 78th Thanksgiving Day, I look back to one year ago and see so much that have changed. Love ones that are not here that were just one year ago. For sure it makes the day different but still important to stop and give thanks to the good Lord for all we are blessed today and have been blessed with in the past. For me just opening my eyes on this special day.

As I have mentioned previously in other Heart blogs I have been blessed with over 700 poems. One of the very first ones is what I believe set the tone for 24 years plus doing the Lords work. Last night I was blessed with a phone call from a woman I never met but became connected through God's love and His awesome poems He has blessed me with. This woman, named Mary, told me she is in a nursing home recovering from a recent stroke. She said she was reading one of my published poem books (the third one) that was at the nursing home. See, last year I mailed out over 30 to various nursing homes and this was nursing home was one of them.

Mary said she was so overcome with emotion and blessings when she read the poems that she was drawn to tears of joy and praise to our Lord above. Wow! she asked where she could get the other two books and I told her I would mail them to her.

Now here is one of the very first poems I was blessed with...

Thank You Lord

I thank you Lord, for giving life to me.

I thank you Lord, for the earth, the sky, and the sea.

I thank you Lord, for showing me all that’s good.

I thank you Lord, for giving me a livelihood.

I thank you Lord, for always caring for me.

For when times get tough and seem so hard to bear

I thank you Lord, for always being there.

E. P. Shagott

I do believe that is truly a Thanksgiving poem, from the heart. I want to share in this blog two songs that I have shared whenever I presenting the God's Love program titled "Giving Thanks". This first one is titled "Give Thanks"!

Now this song I always love for it brings back thoughts of my childhood and my Mom, Dad and my brothers. Yes, I will always remember "Suppertime"!

OK, well, one more on this Thanksgiving day! "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You!" Have an awesome day and always remember to tell the Lord, thanks!

God's love and grace to you all!

Thinking about “Old Harry” ~ November 23rd, 2021

I recently read a story posted on Facebook about Harry Truman. Below is just a smaller version of the article which you can read the full length article on my Inspirational page. At the end of the article is WEN which I believe is the initials of the author.

THINKING ABOUT "Old HARRY"

I have been thinking this week about what is going on politically, morally, and spiritually in our blessed Nation. It seems that Americans in general, and even many Christians, don't seem to care. There is no concern, no urgency, no preparation, and so little prayer.

I recently looked at some old clippings that I had kept regarding a tragedy that happened over forty years ago. I wonder if America can apply that event with how serious things are in our world and our incredible apathy. Next May will mark the 42nd anniversary of the historic and devastating eruption of Mount State Helens. Among the many tragedies of that event, one particular aspect and individual stand out from the rest.

Five miles north of the mountain was a secluded summer resort called "Spirit Lake." This popular but isolated retreat was the longtime home of the 84- year-old caretaker, a man named Harry Truman. Despite the strict warnings to do so, Harry refused to leave. His friends, neighbors, and police, even his sister, could not convince Harry to get out. Harry's stubbornness soon made him a national celebrity. On May 17, 1980, Harry's grinning face appeared on "Good Morning America" and other major TV programs. Harry boasted to America that, "No one knows more about this mountain than me, and it 'ain't' going to blow. In fact, it wouldn't dare blow up on old Harry."

On the morning of May 18, 1980, Harry cooked his breakfast of bacon and eggs and fed the scraps to the 16 cats he cared for at his cabin home. He finished and went outside and began planting petunias along the lawn's edge that he had just cut. At 8:32 on May 18, 1980, Mount Saint Helens exploded with a force 500 times greater than the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima.

I wonder what Harry thought when millions of tons of rock vaporized before his eyes and spewed ten miles straight up into the atmosphere? In that millisecond before the concussion hit him, I wonder if he regretted his foolish pride and stubbornness. I wonder what went through his mind if somehow Harry miraculously survived the shock? Did he gasp in horror as a solid wall of ash and scalding mud, 50 feet high, entombed his cabin, his petunias, 16 cats, and Harry himself? I wonder if he struggled or spent those moments thinking about what a fool he had been?

People all over this country, some of whom are my friends and family, are just as spiritually stubborn and arrogant as Harry Truman. It is not the scientists, geologists, and seismologists, but God Himself, Who repeatedly warns us of a looming tragedy that is mega times worse than the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens. Cf. 2 Pet. 3:3,4.

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

I honestly wonder what is in store as the storm clouds gather, and the shaking begins, and those who are still filled with pride and are stubbornly confident that all is well. I wonder if maybe many are thinking just like "Old Harry" did before May 18, 1980.

After reading the story of "Old Henry" the first song that came to my mind is, "If We Ever Needed You", well, for sure Lord it is now!!!

God's love and grace to you all!

Wake up! ~ November 22nd, 2021

I like this small article that is also on my Inspirational page on this website. This is probably so true for so many today. I like when the gentleman wrote "take an honest look at your life, face the truth, and deal with the issues!" For sure the truth hurts when we face it but as stated in the Bible, "the truth shall set you free!"

Why Can’t I Stop Doing Wrong? Sin always involves self-deception. At the moment you’re sinning, you’re deceiving yourself because you think that what you’re doing will actually produce better results than what God has already told you to do. To stop defeating yourself, you must stop deceiving yourself. You’ve got to take an honest look at your life, face the truth, and deal with the issues. What is it in your life you’re pretending isn’t a problem? What is it in your life you’re pretending you’re not addicted to? What is it in your life you’re saying “It’s no big deal” about? It really doesn’t matter whether you’re shooting heroin or running up your MasterCard, whether you’re reading pornography or a trashy novel. You’re using it all to try to escape from your pain and your sin. But you’re not going to get healing until you first acknowledge the root of your problem. You don’t have to hit rock bottom before you really change. There are wake-up calls going on all around you right now, and you’re not listening to them. Instead, you’re headed on the path toward destruction. But you don’t have to go that way. You can acknowledge the root of the issue and deal with it. I’ve asked the professional counselors in our church, “What’s the biggest problem you encounter?” They say over and over, “People wait too long before they ask for help. Then it’s almost impossible to turn around.” There will be warning signs all over the place in a marriage, and then all of a sudden the husband or wife walks out. The one that’s left behind asks, “What can I do now?” Not a whole lot. You should have been working on it sooner. Most people are in denial and wait until it’s too late, and they go through unnecessary pain. The Bible says, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8 NIV). What are the hard questions you need to be asking about the sin in your life? What are the warning signs you’ve been ignoring? If you want healing, you’ve got to acknowledge the root of your problem. You’ve got to face the truth about you. ~ James Lester

Time Is Wasting

Time is wasting, chances are passing us by. One day the Lord will come, and some will say, “Why didn’t I?”

Each tick on the clock, is another chance to know Him. Time is wasting by my friends, a chance for your new life to begin.

Don’t get caught up in worldly things, grab hold of a Bible and begin to read. See all these days are opportunities, if only you will open your heart to see.

Yes, time is wasting. One day on this earth it will no longer be. Please don’t be one that looks above and say, “Lord, why not me?”

E. P. Shagott 2/2/2011

What Are You Waiting For

So many people just like me are waited for something, what could it be? The things of this world just couldn’t do and the One you need is waiting for me and you.

No matter what we have or what we don’t, it truly doesn’t matter and truly won’t. See, only Jesus can satisfy the need and it won’t be satisfied unless you believe.

So each day will come and each day will pass and the need will be there just like the last. Some days you may win but most you will lose, see it all comes down to what you choose.

For me I chose Jesus, He is the Word and my Light, now living each day makes everything right! So if you are still searching each day like before, my question to you is, “What are you waiting for?”

Aging! ~ November 20th, 2021

Recently on Facebook I can across an small article that I thought was very well written regarding aging. See is you agree.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE 60 yrs OLD AND ABOVE!

🚩Between 60 and death. It's time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don't just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard-earned capital.

🚩Warning: This is also a bad time for investments, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries. This is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.

🚩Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don't feel bad spending your money on yourself. You've taken care of them for many years, and you've taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter, and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.

🚩Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well, and get your sleep. It's easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you're feeling well. Stay informed.

🚩Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together.

🚩Don't stress over the little things. You've already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don't let the past drag you down and don't let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.

🚩Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: "A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection."

🚩Be proud, both inside and out. Don't stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

🚩Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.

🚩ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You'll be surprised at what old friends you'll meet.

🚩Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideas as you, but they are the future and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them that yesterday's wisdom still applies today.

Never use the phrase: “In my time.” Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time.

🚩Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it'll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you feel older and harder to be around.

🚩Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live by yourself

🚩Don't abandon your hobbies. If you don't have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a kitchen garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf.

🚩Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven't seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a park. Get out there.

🚩Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are.

🚩Pains and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of life.

🚩If you've been offended by someone – forgive them. If you've offended someone-apologize. Don't drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn't matter who was right. Someone once said: "Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." Don't take that poison. Forgive, forget, and move on with your life.

🚩Laugh. Laugh away your worries Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life.

Enjoy peaceful life at this point in your life . Don't worry... be happy.

Many years ago I was blessed with this poem and used it when I would present the God's Love music program titled Forever Young. It was a program filled with music from the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Going Back

Every breath we take is from the present thanks to God it does not lack. But every now and then there are times I wished I could go back!

Back to friends and family and times that made me smile. Back to places I liked to visit oh yes, just for a little while.

Back to times when I felt at peace and also not so old. Back to see love ones that are gone, the ones we no longer can hold.

But we know this wish can never be and God also knew from the start. So in each child of His, He gave them a special heart.

A heart that will always hold memories with space that will never lack. All because of His love for us, He gave us a way to go back!

E. P. Shagott

This is a song Elvis Presley sang back in the late 1960's. Whenever I sing it, or listen to it, I always remember when I first heard him sing it. I was at my parents home visiting with them and Elvis was on TV with his 1968 Comeback special. Now I am a great grandfather, blessed beyond compare. I believe "If I Can Dream" is a song for today also.

Follow Jesus! ~ November 17th, 2021

I like this story that can also be found on the Humor plus page as a sub-page titled Inspirational. What comes to mind is how true it is when thinking about church life. I must admit I am one now and then who was looking at everything except why I was at church to begin with.

JESUS SAID "FOLLOW ME

A lady went to the Pastor of her church and said... I won't be attending Church anymore..

He said, may I ask why??

She said, I see people on their cell phones texting and typing during the service, some are gossiping, some just ain't living right, some are sleeping, some are staring at me, they are all just hypocrites...

The Pastor got silent, and then he said, OK... But can I ask you to do something for me before you make your final decision?

She said, sure, what's that?

He said, take a glass of water and walk around the Church 2 times and don't let any water fall out the glass.

She said, yes I can do that! And went and got the glass of water.

She came back and said it's done. Proudly.

He asked her these questions:

1. Did you see anybody on their phone?

2. Did you see anybody gossiping?

3. Was anybody living wrong?

4. Did you see anyone sleeping?

She said, I didn't see anything because I was so focused on this glass, so the water wouldn't fall.

He told her, when you come to Church , you should be just that focused on God , so that YOU don't fall.

THAT'S WHY JESUS SAID "FOLLOW ME,"!!!

He did not say follow Christians.

Don't let your relationship with God be determined by how others relate with God.

Let it be determined by how focused you are on God.

It’s Important Going To Church

It’s important going to church

but there is something to keep in mind.

Once you enter in there

a mixture of saints and sinners you will find.

The saints because of Jesus,

see, He cleansed them white as snow.

The sinners are there looking for Him

and they still have a ways to go.

Ever since the fall of man

sinners we all truly be.

The Father knew we all needed salvation,

so He sent Jesus for you and me.

Now remember satan will not be happy,

when on Sunday in church you be.

He will do everything to stop you,

for he wants you in bondage, not free.

So if you don’t know Jesus, please,

just simply ask Him into your heart.

Your sinful nature will be forgiven,

and a new, free, Kingdom life will start.

We may think it is unnoticed! ~ November 11th, 2021

One day when scrolling on Facebook I saw this poem. Well, for sure since I have been blessed with over 700 poems I was curious about this one. I do believe this picture was with it. I do not know the title or the author so I will just say both unknown. The poem I thought was very well written.

A tiny little spider

Climbed up a fence post.

She often went unnoticed

And she had no cause to boast.

But, one day she spun a web

With such beauty in the weave

She said, “This is a masterpiece!

But, no one will believe.”

“For my work is hidden,

And no one else will see.

I guess all of this beauty

Was only meant for me.”

She went to sleep that night,

Content with what she’d done,

And didn’t wake again

Until she saw the morning sun.

She awoke, amazed to find,

That night a fog rolled through,

And the beauty that was hidden

Now was laced with jewels of dew.

There’s not always fanfare,

And you’ll rarely get applause

Still, keep doing what you do.

Do it … just because.

Yes, do your best knowing

Even if it’s not revealed,

God has a way of showing

Things that are concealed.

When I read this poem it brings to mind the outreach ministry I was blessed with for 24 plus years, yes, and counting. sometimes in each of our lives there are things we think are unnoticeable but for sure not to God. Our part is to be obedient and faithful. We never do understand of what we do can affect someone else's life.

Matthew 6:6

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

See, we should never do something for show or to bring attention to ourselves. The glory should ALWAYS go up to our awesome God.

I like how this video turned out. See, everyone or most everyone knows the Rev. Billy Graham and what he accomplished for the Lord with his time on this earth. But what about the people that in someway was connected with bringing the Gospel message to him? My friends, stay true to "The Mission"!

Behold, He is God! ~ November 6th, 2021

Interesting and very true. It is called a relationship. When Adam and Eve walked with God daily in the Garden of Eden they talked with Him constantly but then "hid", so they thought, from Him. Many today hide from Him, so they think, all because there is something we value, so we think, more than Him. With Adam and Eve it was an apple! Our focus on our Living God should be our daily goal. Yes praise Him for without Him there is no us! Behold and give Him thanks for "He is God"!

How important is the word "Behold" in the Bible? Well, in just the King James Version it is in there "1298" times! the first is in Genesis 1:29; And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Now the last two times it is mentioned in the Bible is in Revelation, Chapter 22. Verse 7 states, Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. and verse 12 states, And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Yes, my friends, "Behold"!

God's love and grace to you always!

Have Thine own way Lord! ~ November 5th, 2021

THE DYNAMIC OF BLENDED WILLS

Now may the God of peace, Who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. ~ Hebrews 13:20-21

In this powerful, doctrine-filled doxology is a gem of a phrase: “for doing His will.” It is one thing to know God’s will, even His “good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2), but the end game is “doing His will.” If we know God’s will and find it seemingly too hard or too distasteful to do and, therefore, not “do” it, then we have failed miserably. When we come to the place where “doing God’s will” is all that matters, then we have placed ourselves in the best position to bring God glory and to please Him.

God never obliterates our will, and it is impossible for us to obliterate it. When we say, as Jesus prayed, “not my will but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42), what we should be saying is “I confess that my will is (or may be) in conflict with Yours, Lord. I choose to mesh my will with Your perfect will, dear God.” Then you act on-and-in His will. Here, the Great Cooperation begins, and the ripple effects of that decision move outwardly from our blended-with-His-will lives more than we can ever ask for or imagine (Ephesians 3:20-21).

~ Chuck Bassett

I love how Chuck Bassett uses the word "mesh". It is an important part of a relationship. We must always remember that God is the "Potter" and we are the clay. This song "Have Thine Own Way" states it so well!

This is a video from Word of God Speak page in this website. I believe it says it perfectly! See the safest place for any of us my friends, is in The Will of God!

God's love and grace to you all!

Many need to see this! ~ November 4th, 2021

NEW EYES, NEW EARS

Jesus: “For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.” ~ Matthew 13:15

When one is in darkness—that is, on the unbelieving side of salvation—voices heralding Jesus Christ seem faint and distant. When one is in light—that is, on the believing side of salvation—voices heralding doubt in Jesus Christ seem faint and distant. This is not to say that slivers of hope never pierce the darkness and increase the decibel of the Gospel occasionally or that shades of doubt never fall upon the light of our faith and slip some momentary dulling doubt into the certainty of faith in some circumstances.

The Big Picture is that salvation is secured by Jesus. Once in your life, He is responsible for the eternity of your salvation. No one can be unborn, and the uncreated life in you—Holy Spirit—can never die, since He is eternal. The Lord changes your Operating System, if you will. In being a “new creation” or a “new creature” in Christ, you are born into a brand-new line of creation. Therefore, Paul can say, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). This (at least, partially) explains why you receive new vision (John 3:3; Hebrews 11:1; 2 Corinthians 4:6) and new hearing (Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 28; 3:13, 22) when you are born again. ~ Chuck Bassett

My friends, how true those words from Chuck Bassett. We are all one in Christ Jesus as the Apostle Paul stated. All we have to do is believe, He is the One!

I love this song "Savior's Shadow". Grace will definitely lead me to where I am free. Please note Psalm 57:1 in this song. Yes, my friends, Jesus and I do walk together and that is where I am suppose to be. We all are suppose to be there! Are you?

God's love and grace to you all!
